 Burn Camp 2010 For burn injured children Ages 6 - 17 for August 22nd thru 27th. |
Camp fees provided for by the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association
Most of us were self conscious as kids. About our cloths, our hair, even a blemish on our face. Think about it for a minute. How much more do burn survivors have to deal with? Not only did you live through a horrifying experience, but now people stare. You stand out in a crowd. Wouldn't it is great to have a place where you fit in? A place where you can have fun, where you can laugh and play and just be a kid. There is such a place, the PPFFA Childrens Burn Camp, open to burn survivors aged 6-17, free of charge. We provide a fun, safe, caring environment. It's a place where kids can unite to play, heal, grow, and support each other after surviving burn injuries. It's a place where kids can share their stories and bond with other children without intrusive stares. It is a camp where campers can run, play, and have fun without feeling out of place or different.
PPFFA Childrens Burn Camp is held at Camp Victory in Millville, Pa. Camp Victory, chosen for their philosophy for, providing a camping environment for children with special needs is located approximately 10 miles from Exit 232 (formally Exit 34) on Interstate 80 near Danville Pa. Camp Victory is a residential campsite designed specifically for chronically ill and physically disabled children. The camp terrain and facilities design contributes to the comfort and well being of the campers who meet there. All camp buildings and activity sites are accessible. Cabins are insulated and heated, and have an accessible bathroom and shower. Other facilities include an arts and crafts pavilion, swimming pool, a fishing and boating pond and pavilion, dining hall, bath house, soccer and sports fields, a sand volleyball court, and a full service Med. Shed.
The Nicholas Wolff Foundation built Camp Victory. Dennis Wolff and his family created the foundation in the name of their son who was born with a potentially fatal liver disease. During Nicholas' illness, the family gave a lot of though to other families going through similar experiences. Those thoughts gave birth to the concept of Camp Victory - a place where children with special needs can come and just be one of the gang. Other camps useing Camp Victory include Harrisburg Youth Diabetic Camp, Camp Dost (childhood cancer), Camp Kydnie (Kidney diseases or transplants), and Camp Spifida (spina bifida) just to name a few. To learn more about Camp Victory visit their web site at www.campvictory.org.
